Flumes and Weirs: Venturi Flumes

Venturi Flumes are recommended for liquid flow measurement within open channels, particularly where suspended solids material is being transported, and are almost universally used in measuring the inflow to sewage treatment works.

The dimensions of flumes are easily adapted to the size of the existing channel. SIRIS provide flumes for a range of flow rates in different manufactured materials, such as stainless steel and GRP. Our flumes are manufactured to very precise tolerances with a polished finish and can be supplied with a fully integrated approach section. Having this built-in approach significantly reduces the likelihood of head gauging errors in the completed structure.

When designed and installed properly SIRIS flumes provide accurate long term and reliable flow measurement.

All SIRIS flumes are designed in accordance with the relevant BS /ISO standard and will meet with relevant regulatory discharge & MCERTS requirements.

Manufactured in a range of different materials such as polished GRP, PVC or stainless steel SIRIS provide a range of regulatory open channel critical depth rectangular flumes, which can be packaged up to form a full regulatory flow conformance system. SIRIS hydraulic flumes are designed all in accordance with BS/ISO and are manufactured to precise dimensions and tolerances.

Most of the standard size flume range come with a solid built in approach fabrication which significantly reduces the likelihood of head gauging errors in the completed structure.

SIRIS critical depth rectangular flumes are recommended for liquid flow measurement within open channels, particularly where suspended solids material is being transported, and are almost universally used in measuring the inflow to sewage treatment works.

We do a range of flumes which cover various flow rates and applications. 2 of our standard sized small flumes can be used for final effluent flow measurement or clean water discharge applications where the flow rates are significantly low and would often require alternative flow measurement systems to be applied.

(1) - BS/ISO recommends a minimum upstream head of 50mm. Lab tests have shown good flow to head correlation down to 0.5 l/s for the SIRIS 50b flume and 0.72 l/s for the SIRIS 70b flume. These flumes should only be used for clean water or final effluent applications.

(2) - BS/ISO recommends a minimum upstream head of 50mm. Lab tests have shown good flow to head correlation < 1.5l/s for the SIRIS No 1 flume.

(3) - The approach length provided is based upon guidance taken from the relevant BS/ISO standard. It should be noted that the flow does not enter the approach with a high velocity, a sharp bend or an angled sluice gate. A greater length of uniform approach is desirable if it can be readily provided.
